New School in Bronte Creek Not to Have All Day Kindergarten

Response From Ministry of Education Early Learning and Child Care Implementation Branch

Many residents of Bronte Creek have been curious whether the new catholic school being built on Colonel William (currently dubbed West Oak Trails #5) will have all day kindergarten or not. It appears as though there will not be, according to a response from the Ministry of Education Early Learning and Child Care Implementation Branch.

In their response, the Ministry stated that West Oak Trails #5 was not put forth by Halton Catholic District School Board for consideration for all day kindergarten during the site selection process for the 2012-13 school year. This is because the Ministry is already significantly over its pupil allocation for the program, and is unable to approve additional sites for all day kindergarten at this time.

The board was given an option to either consider the addition of West Oak Trails #5 for the 2013-14 school year, provided their pupil allocation permits, or implement the program in the 2014-15 school year. These remain a decision of the school board.

Town of Oakville Considers Downtown Heritage District

Town of Oakville Investigating New Downtown Heritage District

The town of Oakville is investigating the possibility of designating downtown a heritage district. This would add a fourth to the already existing heritage districts:

• Old Oakville (established in 1982)
  
• First and Second Street (established in 1987)
  
• Trafalgar Road (established in 1994)
  

This initiative begun in 2010 in the Downtown Oakville Strategic Action Plan and received the support of Town Council.

The project is expected to have 3 phases:

1. The preparation of a background and issues identification report
   
2. Completion of a Heritage Conservation District Study, which will offer a complete historical inventory of the physical landscape of the downtown area, including cultural heritage landscapes within the study area
3. If approved, consultants will be asked to develop a Heritage Conservation District Plan with guidelines for its completion.

In 2005, the former Queen Elizabeth Park School was sold to the Town of Oakville with the intention of redeveloping the facility into a community centre.

In April 2009, Council approved the proposed renovation. The vision was to have a community centre than met recreational needs as well as space requirements of many not-for-profit arts and culture groups.

Bronte Creek Real Estate Statistics for December 2011

The real estate market in Bronte Creek slowed down in December, which is traditional for this time of year. There were still however 23 active listings during the month, which included 10 detached homes and 13 townhouses. The average price for homes for sale in Bronte Creek during December 2011 was $689,339, with detached homes averaging $864,589 and townhouses averaging $554,532. There were 16 homes sold this month in Bronte Creek, with an average sale price of $607,244. The average list price of these homes was $622,730, resulting in a list to sale ratio of 97.5%.
